Designed by Birge Clark and built in 1934, this attractive Spanish Mediterranean-style complex is home to the City of Palo Alto's Recreation Department as well as a Community Theatre and Children's Theatre. Whether you are planning an intimate ceremony or elegant reception, the Lucie Stern Community Center (LSCC) is the ideal location for every occasion.   

Lucie Stern Community Center Booking Process

  • Lucie Stern Community Center may be reserved for events up to one (1) year in advance. Applications can be submitted via email or turned in at the community center front desk. Once an application is approved, a permit will be emailed with event details, rental fees, and the payment plan.

  • We can process the payment in full upon approval of your application, or break your payments down into two (2) installments. The first installment is one-half (1/2) of your total rental + a $500 deposit and is due immediately upon approval of your application. You have ten (10) days to cancel with no cancellation fees. After the ten (10) days has passed, the paid one-half (1/2) of total rental fee is no longer refundable, but you can get your $500 deposit refunded. The final installment is due no later than one (1) month prior to your event date. Failure to pay by your payment deadlines will result in the immediate cancellation of your event.

  • We require at least one (1) month notice for application submissions. Availability of rooms can be seen in links below or provided by phone or email. No date will be held until an application is submitted.

  • For tours, please call, email, or visit our availability page (under "Facility Rental Information") to schedule a self-guided tour. Drop-ins are accepted, however we ask that you follow up ahead of time in case there is an event taking place.

Facility Information

  • Ballroom
    Resident Rate: $237/hr | Non-Resident Rate: $341/hr

    This large space features hardwood floors, a wood-beamed cathedral ceiling, two tiled fireplaces and six art deco chandeliers in the California Colonial style architecture. This room measures 70 by 40 feet and can accommodate 300 guests theatre-style or 200 for dining.

  • Community Room
    Resident Rate: $177/hr | Non-Resident Rate: $240/hr

    The Community Room measures 45 by 25 feet and features wall-to-wall carpeting, as well as windows and two French doors that open onto the Patio. This bright room can accommodate 125 guests theatre-style or 75 for dining and provides a comfortable setting for smaller events or meetings.  

  • Fireside Room
    Resident Rate: $135/hr | Non-Resident Rate: $187/hr

    The Fireside Room also features French doors that open onto the Patio, wall-to-wall carpeting as well as a lovely working fireplace. This room measures 25 by 26 feet and can accommodate 70 guests theatre-style or 45 for dining and is frequently used for small parties and meetings. 

  • Patio
    Resident Rate: $129/hr | Non-Resident Rate: $185/hr

    The enclosed Patio area is accessible through both the Community and Fireside Rooms. With a large lawn area, the Patio makes an ideal setting for spring and summer events. It measures 70 by 90 feet and can accommodate 250 guests theatre-style or 150 for dining.
  • Kitchen
     Resident Rate: $50/hr | Non-Resident Rate: $69/hr 

    Conveniently located between the Community and Fireside Rooms, and adjacent to the Patio, the fully equipped kitchen will easily meet the requirements of your caterer.

Cancellation Policy

  • For rentals that are booked over 30 days out, 50% of your rental payment is due up front, you have 10 days* to reach out to us and cancel for a full refund, after that the 50% is no longer refundable, (any portion that went toward the refundable deposit will be refunded). The final 50% is due no later than 30 days prior to the date of your booking. After final payment has been made, only the refundable deposit is eligible for refund. Rentals approved at or within the the 30 day mark are not eligible for a refund, with the exception of the deposit. *Please note, the 10 day window to cancel for a full refund may be shortened if the final payment due date is less than 10 days out.
